\"Gothic Revival\" Style - Trefoils / Columns / Floral Motifs

Age and Origin Unknown

There is an 11/16\" diameter hole that perforates either column about halfway up, so it\'s likely that this frame originally housed a tilt mirror. (See photo.)

Dimensions (approximate):

- 35\" tall x 31\" wide

- Columns are carved from 2\" x 2\" stock.

- Carved upper pediment is also 2\" thick.

- \"Feet\" at either end of base are about 4\" deep.

- Opening is 27\" x 27\" if you wish to install a tilt mirror.

- Or, it can accommodate a fixed mirror 30\" tall x 29\" wide fitted onto the back.

WALNUT?

It appears to be unfinished walnut.However, judging bare wood is always an educated guess. This piece might also be mahogany, pecan, or even a straight-graned oak that was lightly stained to look like walnut. Judging by its color, and its hefty weight & density, my opinion is that it\'s probably unfinished walnut. The upper portion is just a mere hint more reddish in color than the rest -- which is predominantly walnut brown. So, if anything, the top may be mahogany and the rest, walnut.

NOTE ON COLOR: In the photos, the upper portion looks significantly more reddish than the rest. That is just my second-rate photography and uneven studio lighting. In real life, there is little or no noticeable difference in coloration.

Condition Details:

Here you have my best good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind, though, that vintage/antique items always show their age -- (Don\'t we all!?) --so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that\'s not perfect. Even if it\'s \"mint\" or \"new-old-stock,\" it will still be somehow touched by Father Time.

Beautifully preserved condition.

- A few nicks visible on close examination.

- TWO condition issues worth mentioning: A bit of staining at bottom (about 2\" wide), and a small accent tab that\'s present on the right-hand turret but not the left. (Personally, I would remove what\'s left of this accent tab so both sides match. But I\'ll leave that decision to you. It could also be easily restored.) See both issues in FINAL PHOTO.
