A WONDERFUL LATE 18TH CENTURY TWO COMPARTMENT KNIFE OR UTENSIL BOX WITH A GREAT TALL CUT OUT CARRYING HANDLE WITH THE BEST HAND CUT DOVETAILS AND THE BEST GRUNGY ORIGINAL RED PAINTED SURFACE. POPLAR, CIRCA 1760-1790.

IT RETAINS THE ABSOLUTE BEST ORIGINAL RED PAINTED SURFACE THAT IS GRUNGY AND THE PATINA IS THE BEST. THE PAINT IS WORN AND DRY.
GREAT DOVETAIL CONSTRUCTION WITH ITS ORIGINAL SQUARE HEADED NAILS STILL INTACT.
Great early piece in very fine condition. There have been some added 19th century wire nails put into the bottom (about 8 of them) and they all missed their marks, see photos. Also, the edges of the bottom on the sides have been slightly shaved, I think they were very rough and one of the last owners \"cleaned\" it up. Sounds worse than it is...THIS IS A GREAT EARLY BOX IN THE ABSOLUTE BEST ORIGINAL RED PAINTED SURFACE.
