$72.21

Alexander III AR Tetradrachm. Magnesia mint? Circa 309-305 BC.

Obv:Head of Herakles, in lionskin headdress.

Rev: ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΟΥ

Zeus enthroned left with eagle and sceptre. Left field, deltawithin circle ♽ (wreath?) with AΓI or AΠ below.

17.012gm, 28.25mm

Upon close inspection the coin portrays the usual or customaryfine scratch lines and miniature pock marks usually present on similar coins ofthis age; however I have my doubts on this coins authenticity for the followingreasons.

1. I cannot find a similarcoin with the monogram and letters as portrayed in the left field, oppositeZeus.

2. The coins outer edgeappears abnormal, folded/lined?, see associated picture (three edge or sideviews of the rim)

3. The coin appearsmalformed on its rim, as though it has been nibbled at, or cut away. However, having said this, several similarspecimens showing the same characteristics have been noted on the internet.

Please bear the above information in mind if you wish to offer onthe coin.

The coin is silver. Please grade as per the pictures.
