Union General William TecumsehSherman was born February 8, 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio.He was
a West Point graduate (Class of 1840) and heserved in the Mexican War but saw little action.
He joined the Union Army in 1861 and was promotedto Brig. General and was ordered to defend
Kentucky with home guard troops. He foughtvigorously at Shiloh and started serving under General
US Grant in defending Memphis. He led at Chickasaw Bluffs, Arkansas Post and Vicksburg. Leading
the Army of Tennessee he fought at Chattanooga, then the March to the Sea across Georgia. After the
Civil War he was the General in Chief of the US Army. He retired to New York City in 1883 and wrote
his memoirs, before he died in 1891. Seller has many different Civil War Generals covers and covers for
