Genuine \"Monopol Ah-So\" Bottle Wine Bottle Opener. Robert Mondavi, Napa, CA:
$21.96

This is a wine bottle openermade in the 70\'s-80\'s. Marked,Robert Mondavi Winery.

In 1966 Robert Mondavifounded the Robert Mondavi Winery with his sons Michael and Tim Mondavi in the Napa Valley with the goal of producing wines that would rival the finest wines of Europe. Robert Mondavi was the first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era. Part of Mondavi\'s original vineyard land included the To Kalon (a Greek term meaning \"the beautiful\") vineyard originally established by Napa Valley pioneer H.W. Crabb in 1868. The winery bearing Mondavi\'s name produces high quality wine in the California Missionstyle. .

This is a genuine Monopol \"Ah-So\" opener that was manufactured under contract for Robert Mondavi and sold in the tasting room of the Mondavi Winery. This little device will open soda bottles as well as wine bottles... I have sold a few of these contract openers. I currently have one listed that includes the original box and instructions so this is the genuine article. Itemshows someuse but no abuse.

The twin prong cork puller, alsocalled the Butler\'s Friend or Ah-So, is shaped like a large key with a squaredoval handle about 5cm × 8cm, and two thin metal strips, approximately 10cm long, 5mm wide, and 0.5mm thick, descendingin tandem from the center of the handle. The two strips are spread open andthen wiggled into the space between the cork and the bottle on either side.Once fully in place, a turn and pull of the handle causes friction to turn thecork and pull it out of the bottle.

\"Ah-so\" is a translation of the German title, \"Achso!\", an expression meaning roughly \"Ah, I see.\" It is named sobecause its appearance often baffles people, but when its use is demonstrated, they often exclaim \"Ah! So that\'s how it works\". The ah-so is usefulin opening old bottles with brittle corks, because it does not puncture thecork, limiting the likelihood of a brittle cork crumbling into the wine. However, the Ah-So can inadvertently push the cork further into the bottleinstead of extracting it. Superior condition a very nifty bar collectors item.
