Up for sale is aWWI Bavarian State Fire Service medal with box. It is a silver and blue enamel cross with silver-gilt rays between the arms and with loop for ribbon suspension. The face with a circular central silver medallion bearing a fireman’s helmet above a laurel wreath. The reverse with a circular central silver medallion bearing the lesser Bavarian arms in silver and white and light blue enamel. The upper, left, right and lower arms inscribed ‘BAYER.’, ‘LANDES’, ‘FEUERW.’ and ‘VERBAND’ respectively. It has a ‘990’ silver purity mark on the edge of the left hand arm of the cross.. The Association was founded in 1868 and is still very active today.It measures approximately 1 1/2\" X 1 3/4\". It shows some wear andtarnishing. The box has some wear. Feuerwehr-Ehrenkreuz Free State of Bavaria (Red for firefighters)The Landesfeuerwehrverband Bayern donated the Feuerwehr-Ehrenenkreuz on 26 September 1925. Crosses with crowning were awarded for outstanding services to the Feuerlöschwesen.Without crowning this award was awarded for special services to the fire extinguishing.Awarded were firefighters and non-firefighters.For firefighters came crosses with red enamelling and red and white ribbon for the award.People who served in any fire department were given crosses with blue enamel and blue-white band.Crosses were also awarded, in both colors, with crown and without crown.From 1932, blue enameled crosses with crowning were awarded to firefighters who served at least 41 years faithfully.(From 50 years, the cross was awarded for 50 years of service) The blue cross for service but were awarded on the red-white band.
