Gilded Wood Egyptian Guardian Statue Sculpture King Tut Handcarved Tutankhamen:
$100.00
This beautiful and stunning, lifelike sculpture of the original
Guardians to King Tut\'s tomb reproduction is hand~crafted.
Unlike other pieces which claim to be handcrafted,
the proof, as they say, is in the pudding, or in this case, the materials.
This statue was carefully crafted with real gold {gilded} paint, metal components and a wooden base.
Don\'t be fooled by cheap resin imitations.
The base is carved from solid wood.
The gold paint is true, gilded 24K paint, just as the ancient craftsmen crafted the originals.
The shoes upon the feet are made from metal, bronze or brass.
The spear is wooden.
The body is likely plaster, being as close to the originalas possible
and the technique of using resin to bond the black paint
to the statue was done true to the original masterpieces.
Height from base to tip 19 cm
Base width 5 cm
MADE IN EGYPT
This vintage statue shows some defects~ the tip of his spear
has broken off and his leg near the base shows the frailness of plaster
having been damaged then expertly repaired
to where its only noticeable upon close inspection
Side Note: It\'s thought that the black colouring is supposed to invoke the richness and fertility of the black silt which the Nile deposited each year when it overflowed, and which Egypt depended on for its existence. It was the normal convention in Egyptian art for males to be shown with dark skin and females with light skin, presumably to show that they spent their time indoors.
History: The original Egyptian Guardian Statues were found in the Antechamber, during the excavation of King Tut’s Tomb in 1922 by the Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter. The originals were carved from wood, jointed, and with any unevenness made up with plaster. The flesh parts of the statues had been painted directly on to the wood with shiny black resin. The head clothes, broad collars, kilts and other details overlaid with gold on a base of linen and gesso. Guarding Tutankhamun\'s Burial Chamber, this life-size pair of gilded wooden statues represented his ka, or soul. Tut’s missing religious texts were believed to be stored inside the guardians, but x-rays indicated otherwise.
