Gillette original gold plated razors had a layer of clear laquer applied to protect the plating. Our 24K hard gold is tougher than most dip electroplated gold and will hold up well for normal shaving, but, it is subject to being worn off. Some people apply a layer of protective wax, some spray on laquer. Others leave them as is for their collections if not using for shaving.
