Lovely Elegant

AVeM

These exquisite very elegant 1950's Murano AVeM Arte Vetraria Muranese glass latticino/millefiori scramble sculptures are quite simply masterpieces of Murano artistry, and I'm lucky enough to be able to feature three of them this week.

These much sought after AVeM pieces are hollow blown with a base (ground) of green, red or cobalt blue. Then comes a layer of silver and/or gold foil, followed by several layers of lacy filigree, latticino, aventurine, twisted ribbons and millefiori all encased in a final crystal clear layer.

This one features a cobalt blue ground, and is made all the more special by thepreponderance of bright yellow, purple, and green canes.

A fabulous piece of Murano artistry.

I'm listing thee of these AVeM latticino sculpture/paperweights, and have included photos of the group. This listing is for the one featured in the large photo at the top of this page only.

This lovely piece is roughly 7-1/2" wide, 4-1/2" high, and has a ship weight of 7 pounds.

This fantastic AVeM weight is unlabeled.

I've included an assortment of photos, some with flash some without.

This item is in great condition. No Scratches, No cracks, No Dings, No Dangs, Not even a Darn. Like every paperweight, vase, or piece of art glass, light scratches on the bottom, from normal shelf wear, are to be expected, and will not be noted here.

I have included a pic with a Fresca can to show scale. The Fresca is NOT included, though, if you add an extra five bucks, I'll throw in the can.

Yes, of course I combine shipping. However, some items cannot be combined, for example, paperweights and vases/perfume bottles do not ship well together. If in doubt, please blind pup SamE claims this comes from a pet free household, which is most certainly true since he definitely does NOT consider himself to be a pet, and secondly dogs never ever lie, lie down yes, but lie? Vetraria Muranese, or AVeM (A.Ve.M.) for short, was founded in 1932, by several glassblowers - Antonio Luigi Ferro, his son Egidio Ferro, Emilio Nason, and Galliano Ferro. Giulio Radi was technical director.

AVeM are probably best know today for their very popular "Tutti Frutti" range of bowls and vases from the 1950's. The Tutti Frutti range is often wrongly attributed to designer Dino Martens, who never actually worked for AVeM, due to a mistake in a popular book on Murano glass.

This piece was probably designed by Anzolo Fuga, who was at A.V.E.M. from 1955 to 1962, and who also decorated the pieces with millefiori slices under the direction of master glass maker Luciano Ferro.

Murano Glass

The term "Murano Glass" defines glass produced on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. There are many different manufacturers, both past and present, based on Murano.

The history of Murano Glass began in 1291, when concerns about the risk of fire to the mainly wooden buildings of Venice lead to the many glass manufacturers there being ordered to move their premises to the small island of Murano, just off the coast of Venice, Italy.

Murano was already a busy trade port at the time. Murano glass artists soon became renowned for their skills in glass design, and had a monopoly on glassware production for several centuries.

The Murano glass industry boomed during the 1950's/60's, exporting a vast amount of Venetian glassware as well as producing a large quantity of glassware for tourists visiting Venice. Murano glass production is still extremely active today.
