Gorgeous antique French hand fan. The fan has for the past uncountable years been housed in a box of the fan maker Benjamin Lachelin, Avenue l\'Opera, Paris. We\'re told by an expert on fans that this may or may not mean it was made by Lachelin, as fan boxes were used and reused for fans of different makers. this fan features a courting couple motif with extensive floral accents.
We are also told by an expert on antique fans that the guards and sticks of this fan are made of bone. The outer guards display beautiful carving and painting.
The front leaf displays meticulously executed and detailed hand painting and sequin work. All of the hand stitching appears intact and we detect no breaks or damage whatsoever. The rear leaf is as photographed and it, too, appears to be without flaw or defect.
We believe that this fan dates to the late 1800s.
