This is a fabulous piece which I believe dates to around the Civil War Era due to the style and lace itself which is an unusual example of Schiffli Embroidered Lace. This piece could date slightly earlier.

This is actually attached by threads at the center just above the lovely dangling streamer ties or tails on the front of the piece.

There is a lot of heavy embroidered work in this piece as can be seen in the pictures. Some of the edging embroidery resembles beading and is fluid and weighty.

Condition is sturdy yet it is delicate as all these net laces from this period would be. There are a couple minor issues to note. There are a couple missing strands from the bottom of the ties or tails that go down the front of this piece.

There is one small net separation around an embroidery motif (shown). There are a few darker tan marks (which do not stand out overall) and all over patina. This is untreated. I see no dry rot or problems, could be worn with care if you wished.

Could be soaked if you wished to do so.

This is a very unusual and rare piece not easily found.

Overall measurements. 35 inches from back of outside neck to tip of streamer ties when folded in half, approx 25 inches across width, 28 inches around inside neckline, 11 inches at widest point of lace.
