This very fine basketry gem measures 17\" D x 4 1/8\" H, c1890. The wonderful stepped cross designs and 4 \"ladders\" are unique and executed masterfully. Has an old leather piece that was probably used to hang basket all these years which kept it from being handled. Nice bold motifs surrounded by exquisite aged background. Solid and pristine basket.
The last 2 pictures added to the listing are comparables. The first selling for over $1200, the second for over $3300 - both without shipping. The former is poor condition with many splint losses - and the latter in excellent condition like the one I am selling. As you can see, the example I am selling is priced well.
