HAMILTON CHRONOMETER DECK WATCH MODEL NO. 22 AND (CARRYING CASE) (WW II 1943) :
$1451.00

Hamilton Chronometer Deck Watch Model No. 22 in original three section box. The model 22 chronometer watch was designed and built to meet the needs of the U.S. Navy in World War II and made in 1943. It is a 21 jewel lever escapement chronometer. The watch is in a very heavy solid brass tub with a screw on base. It is in excellent condition. This Chronometer features the second hand and up-down hour indicator. This watch is an excellent timekeeper. It will run for approximately 60 hours on a single winding. It is intended, however, to be wound at the same time every day. The dial has Hamilton and below this is Lancaster, PA.,U.S.A. The dial is 2 ½ inches in diameter and off-white color and in good condition. The case is in excellent condition. This watch has a screw on glass face bezel. The watch is protected with a safety setting device. To set the watch press the shielded locking pin (to the left of pendent) in as far as it will go, pull out stem, release locking pin, and set watch in regular manner. Then push stem back into winding position. The Hamilton Watch Co. put many very sophisticated innovations into this deck chronometer, and it may be arguably the finest mass produced lever escapement timepiece. Some of the innovations incorporated into this watch include a 60 inch long mainspring unheard of for this type of watch. This insured a steady amount of power and a unique biaxial thermal expansion type of balance wheel coupled to an Elinvar hairspring. It also has a \"safety setting device\" to prevent accidental time change. The box features a plaque describing this device and how to use it. The face, hands, and movement on this example are original and in excellent condition. The beautifully lacquered navy brass is excellent throughout. The unit comes in an original Hamilton three section box complete with observation lid, glass viewing section and brass gimbal. There is a chrome name plate on the front of the box that has Hamilton Watch Co., Lancaster, PA., U.S.A. The box is 6 inches in length, 6 inches in width and is 5 ¾ inches in height. I unscrewed the back on the chronometer. The number is 2F22674 and is has Hamilton Watch Co., Model 22, 21 jewels, adj to temp & 6 pos, made in USA, US Navy-bu Ship-1943.The number 12236 is stamped on the of the brass piece that you unscrew to see movement. The number 12236 is stamped also on the bezel. The side of brass that encases the movement it has stamped “Hamilton, 12236”.I am added a \"Manual For Overhaul, Repair and Handling of Hamilton 35 size (Model No. 22) Chronometer Watch with Parts Catalog. The manual was put together by the Navy Department, October 1948. I have printed this from a file that I bought on . The print out is on 8.5 by 11 paper and there are 70 pages with print on one side only and this was printed out on a color laserjet. I will place the loose manual in plastic holder.

The Hamilton Chronometer has the Original Wood Carrying Case with the original leather straps. The case has chrome name plate on the front of the box that has Hamilton Watch Co., Lancaster, PA., U.S.A and the metal latch to secure the case. The case is 8.25 by 8.25 inches and is 7.75 inches in height. The case has the green felt cushion inside.
