HAND PAINTED Civil War Toy Soldiers Marx 60 mm COMPLETE SET:
$150.00

You are offerding on a VERY UNIQUE and HAND PAINTED set of one of the very first plastic toy soldiers representing the American Civil War. Initially made by Marx Toy Company in the early 1950\'s, they became the very first exposure I had with the Civil War as a young boy! My Dad brought me home the complete set over a few weeks from a local \"five and dime\" store where these were sold as unpainted individual poses for ten cents or a quarter each when they initially were introduced. As in most of the early Marx toy soldiers, they were made in 60mm, and they made a lasting impression on me!While I\'ve sold over 18,700 toy soldiers since beginning this as an adult hobby about fourteen years ago, this group still has a special place in my heart, and I have made up only my fourth COMPLETE SET of all SIXTEEN poses, PLUS some recently released figures from Americana that are very accurate 60mm versions of General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant! And while the initial set had some mounted poses, there were never any horses that Marx produced that truly fit these figures, so I took three very well done Toy Soldiers of San Diego horses and mounted the two Union soldiers and the one Confederate Cavalryman on three differently posed horses! Included with this set you receive nine Union soldiers, including General Grant (Americana), and Marx (recasts) of a standing firing rifleman, a kneeling officer firing his revolver, a charging soldier, a marching soldier, an orderly carrying a satchel of orders, a Cavalry bugler, a mounted Cavalryman in a slouch hat, and a mounted guidon bearer painted with the Flag of Company C of the ,2nd Cavalry Corps! Also included are nine Confederate soldiers, including General Lee (Americana) and Marx (recasts) of a standing firing rifleman, a infantryman loading his rifle with his ramrod, one advancing soldier, one marching soldier, a wounded Artillery officer holding a ramrod and signaling with his other hand, a General officer standing with his hand resting on his holster and sword, another General officer saluting, and a mounted Cavalryman charging with his sword raised over his head (who I modified slightly as his molded sword handle was incomplete in the recast, so I added the handle from a new Expeditionary Force figure!) The Union figures come dressed in typical uniforms of dark blue jackets, and either dark blue or sky blue trousers, as both were worn by the officers, which I painted in Infantry and Cavalry uniforms to represent the poses included in their group, while the Confederates were painted in typically seen uniforms of gray or butternut, with some sky blue pants seen, and various types of headgear, in Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery uniforms to represent the poses in their group! I also hand painted their weapons, equipment and accoutrements accurately as researched! (NOTE: In looking over the photos of the set, I felt some of the eye details could be improved, so I did refinish about half the faces in the group to improve them to the quality I wanted for this set!)And keep in mind I combine shipping with multiple set purchases to save you on shipping! This highly detailed and very UNIQUE set of classic Marx Civil War soldiers depicting both sides of the epic conflict, would make a very interesting looking display in most anyone\'s Civil War display or 60 mm toy soldier collection!! And with the 150th Anniversary of this momentous event in our Nation\'s history that just concluded, a neat way to display your remembrance of the Civil War!I\'ve hand painted over 18,700 soldiers for collectors in the US,Canada, Europe, Australia and even Japan in the last eight years! My Civil War background began as a child on my first trip to Gettysburg, over 50 years ago, and I suit up in my complete Union Artillery sergeant\'s uniform to teach the Civil War to my wife\'s 5th Grade class each year!
