This exquisite, fine china collector\'s plate was produced for the University of Judaism (American Jewish University) in 1997 and features a work of art by Harry Lieberman.

Lieberman was a well-respected painter known for his portrayal of Jewish folk life.

He immigrated from Poland to the United States as a young man. After working at various jobs in Manhattan\'s lower east side, he purchased a confectionery store that he operated with his wife, Sophie. He sold the business when he was 40 but, because he was bored, he bought back the business and operated it again until he was 77 years of age, at which time he once again sold the business. He was bored again, however, so he began to paint--\"if you have activity that is what brings you back to life,\" he said--and continued to do so until he died in 1983 at the age of 102.

His paintings hang in museums throughout the world and he is listed in Who\'s Who in American Art.

The painting exhibited on this plate is entitled:

\"ADAM & EVE & THE SNAKE\"

The quote on the back of the plate reads:

\"Adam complained about being put out of Eden, and God asked, \'why did you eat from the tree? I told you not to.\' Adam said, \'Eve, she gave it to me, the apple.\' The real troublemaker was the snake. That\'s why the snake was cursed and had to live in the dust. We shouldn\'t blame a woman for the troubles of the world.\"
