HEAVY 1850s CAST BRASS COLUMN, & LARGE CUT GLASS DUPLEX KEROSENE OIL LAMP FONT:

Up for sale is this heavy brass column base for an early oil lamp fitted with a massive attractively cut glass font.

Column comprising a cast brass circular base with applied cast brass claw feet, heavy cast lead disc inside for weight, plain brass column shaft and heavy cast brass plain round capitol.

The screw socket at top is for a standard No 10 (23mm ) font screw, as found on most larger English paraffin lamp fonts .

The column is almost certainly much earlier, from the 1830s to 1850s, and originally started out as a base for an Argand heavy oil lamp ( such as a Solar or Sinumbra ) or equally possible, a large \'Palmer Type\' candle lamp.

The brass has been cleaned but not \'polished to death\', and as you\'d expect the brass still retains some patina. There are no splits, broken bits or bent bits. The lamp stands straight.

Column stands 13&1/2 inches tall. The circular base is 6 inches diameter and diameter around the feet approx 9 inches. Column shaft is 1&1/2 inches diameter.

The font is a typical Edwardian, less fussy than the Victorian designs, but crisply and deeply cut . This is a big font , just over 7 inches max diameter, 180mm and 6 inches total height, 152mm.

Complete with brass fittings, top collar has the standard \'screw Duplex\' collar, 39mm / 1&1/2 inches thread diameter. The bottom screw / undermount is the larger \'English No 10\' size with threads 23mm external diameter.

There are no cracks, No chips and NO nasty stains to the font, and no dents, splits or corrosion to the brass fittings.

Font and column together stand 19 inches to the top of the burner collar.
