Covered Potpourri Urn withMeissen Augustus Rex ARmark, probably as later used by Helena Wolfsohn, c.1880. This fabulous Potpourri Urn comes to us from a local estate and has the Meissen Augustus Rex AR mark in blue under the glaze on the underside, a mark used in the early 18th century. The mark was later used by porcelain decoratorHelena Wolfsohn between 1879 and c.1881, and this piece is likely a Wolfsohn product. The Wolfsohn mark was modified around 1881 to try to avoid trademark problems and was easier to distinguish from the true Augustus Rex mark. This piece looks to date to the c.1880 time frame as it bears the non-modified mark.

Beautifully hand decorated, the urn features gilt handles and trim, with vibrantly colored chinoiserie motif and reticulated lid. The piece measures 11-3/4 inches in height and is about 6 inches across, measured at the handles. Base is 3-1/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches. Weight (with lid): 2 pounds 10 ounces.

Condition: Very good with repair. One handle has been glued back on (see pictures 9 and 10). Small and shallow chip at gilt ring at top of the base section (pictures 11 and 12). Gilt goldsubstantially intact overall.Two small dealer stickers on underside, with one small sticker on lid. No crazing. A few small dusty areas on some of the detailed surfaces.All pictures show the actual piece you will receive.
