sale is this large Herschede chiming mantel clock. It plays the Westminster chimes and has 5
rods. It plays 4 notes on the quarter
hour, 8 notes on the half hour, 12 notes on the three-quarter hour, and 16 notes
on the hour, followed by counting of the hours by striking the longest rod. There is a silence lever on the dial that
controls the chimes on or off.
The movement is model 10, as noted on the
back door instruction sheet. It has an 11 jewel balance wheel escapement and it runs, but is difficult to get started, so some kind of service may be
required. Once started, it keeps running
alright and the balance motion seems lively enough, but it loses about 5-6 minutes per day. The chimes and strike work okay. The serial
number is 45333 and it’s marked on the back of the movement, and It was probably
made sometime in the 1920’s or 1930’s (approximately). A key will be included.
