HOPI NATIVE AMERICAN KOYALA TEWA RODEO CLOWN KACHINA KATSINA DOLL . THE ARTIST IS REGINA NAHA, 98.

The Koyala\'s (Hopi Clowns) are not a Katsini, but are a type of sacred priests. They mimic inappropriate behavior which is called being qahopi (un-Hopi). They basically taught what not to do with humor. At the end of the day they are punished by the Raider Katsinas which is symbolic of purification for all the Hopi people & a lesson in consequence of being qahopi (un-Hopi).

The doll stands approx. 9\" tall including base and 3\" wide. Base is approx. 1-1/2\" tall. Carved from cottonwood root. It is in excellent condition. The name of the artist & in some cases other information is on the bottom of the base. No chips, breaks or losses. Sold as is gently used in displayed only condition.This is one of the finest carvingsever created by theartist. The detail is stunning! A true one of a kind piece!
