Vintage Arts & Crafts era hand wrought large and heavy copper serving platter crafted by Avon Coppersmith, Avon, New York.
Marked on back...stamped: \"SOLID COPPER, THE AVON COPPERSMITH, HAND WROUGHT\".
Huge size...one of largest hammered Avon platters I\'ve ever seen / heard of.
Thick gauge copper...weighs over 4.5 lbs!
Top has a sixteen (16) sided raised rim...a nice detail.
Some variation in the patina...see photos.
Backside is slightly lighter in color...may have been polished in the past...?...usually it is the other way around.
A rare and classic large form by this craft shop, which was founded by former Roycroft metalsmith Arthur Cole.
Fine condition.
You can see that this is truly hand made...not spun, but pounded out into a mold.
Note the hammer marks around the perimeter of the recessed area where it was formed manually w/ a hammer.Shipping is $35.
