Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous and ornately detailed antique solid CYPRESS wood door. It has been professionally refinished for your convenience, first stripped of the multitude of old paint layers, then sanded and refinished in a layer of satin polyurethane. The door is HUGE measuring 88 & 3/4\" TALL X 35 & 3/4\" WIDE X 1 & 3/4\" DEEP and weighing nearly 100 lbs. !! Cypress wood doors of this vintage are getting almost impossible to find these days as they are unique to the deep south United States, and especially the New Orleans area. And those that have intricate ornate detail work like this one are pretty much extinct at this point. I have included many pictures in different intensities of sunlight, so you can both see the rich grain patterns of the wood and the truly breathtaking detail work on this classic antique door! But even though I have gone through all this trouble to take so many photos covering every possible angle, rest assured that the photos DO NOT do it justice and cannot compare to seeing it in person !This Cypress door was covered in multiple layers of paint that had accumulated over many years, and has been professionally stripped, hand sanded, and refinished in a special mixture of satin polyurethane. The stripping process was of the highest quality, something not possible by painting on a stripping chemical by hand. Instead, the door was submerged overnight in an expensive high-grade stripping chemical, removed and thoroughly washed with a 1500 PSI pressure washer, then submerged again in another neutralizer chemical that protects the wood from the fading effects that can be caused by solvents. Furthermore, once completely dry it was delicately sanded by hand for many hours with 4 different grades of sand paper to absolutely perfect the smoothness of the wood. Then after all this, 3 separate coats of a special \"secret\" mixture of high-grade satin polyurethane were professionally applied. THE RESULT: an absolutely gorgeous, PROFESSIONALLY STRIPPED and REFINISHED antique wood door !!! Please consider this when offerding, as this process is not cheap and therefore adds considerable value to the antique. I was taught this refinishing process by the owner of a high end antique shop, and trust me when I say this is NOT something you can do at home ! The stripping process is expensive, the sanding work requires MANY hours and years of experience, and the polyurethane is a special mixture known only by the pros -- plus the application of the polyurethane requires YEARS of experience to get results that look like this !! I guarantee the genuineness of all of my Cypress pieces(see my response profile for VERY HAPPY customers), and my asking price is very reasonable by comparison to what others usually ask for pieces that have been professionally stripped and hand sanded with a perfectionist\'s touch.
