Description

This is probably the biggest antique Victorian Christmas decoration that I have ever seen! It\'s 26 3/4" long - over 2 feet! It is made from German die cut embossed Victorian scrap - called that because the Victorians collected these types of paper and pasted them in scrap books. The baby is actually 3 pieces - his head, and each arm would have been separate, and them combined with the other elements to make the decoration. My favorite part is the bottle - what a charming baby bottle,and the baby is holding it all by herself. The die cut is excellent, with no creases or bad damage, and is made from very high quality lithograph paper that is heavily embossed, and very shiny. The dress is spun cotton - a unwoven cotton also called batting, that was used as lining for quilts. The decoration on the dress is red crepe paper that has amazingly survived. It shows wear, but hasn\'t faded. It is a dark red. The piece has a lead tinsel wire that stretches from the baby\'s arm to hang it with. The back is cardboard to help hold the piece together. It is very old, dating to around 1900. It would have been created as a piece of Christmas folk art - combining the components to create an art form for the Christmas tree! It is stunning, and guaranteed old and authentic, like everything I sell. You won\'t be disappointed in this "baby"! I have other vintage and antique holiday decorations so take a look!
