RuthMeechan (1914 - 2007) was born in Glenavon Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouverin the 1940\'s to attend art school. She was incredibly creative throughout herlife and expressed herself through drawing, painting, textile arts and laterpottery. Her work was accepted in juried shows in Vancouver and across Canada.She established a pottery studio with Gene Barker in the Maple Ridgeneighborhood of Webster\'s Corners and designed and built the first studio-car kilnin BC. Most of Ruth\'s and Gene\'s designs were of raised First Nations style,and their work was sold as tourist ware as far away as Banff. As one of theoriginal members of the BC Potters Guild, Meechan served a term as president,and edited for many years their magazine the Western Pottery.
