This is an opportunity to own a large size Southworth & Hawes daguerreotype, and to top it off, obtain a rare case that the esteemed firm used.
And the couple is supremely handsome. The man sports an unorthodox hairstyle (one which I’ve never seen before) and the woman is truly beautiful.
This is an overmatted half plate daguerreotype (old seals which we’re not going to picture). Because of the overmatting, the CASE is an unusual size, approximately 7 x 5 7/8 inches, making it very large in the scope of things. Case is handsome and closes properly, but fastener does not fasten. Velvet is very good!
Rubbed and scratched all over. Still, it’s a classic!
