As is evident from the photos, this is NOT the two-tone gold/black strap used on the very earliest Venturas. While the Ventura was sold with the striking two-tone strap when first released, that was only used for roughly 4-5 months. For the remaining years of production Hamilton fitted Venturas with padded calfskin straps -- black for black dial watches and brown for silver dials.This is a brand-new old-stock example of the latter -- made to be fitted to a yellow gold Ventura with silver dial. It is complete with a 14K solid gold buckle, which is a valuable rarity in itself.
These original padded straps with extra-wide keeper (as also found on the two-tone design) are exceedingly rare today. The width at the lug ends is 11/16\" (approximately 18mm), tapering to a 5/8\" buckle (approximately 16mm). PLEASE NOTE that American watchmakers did NOT use metric measurements in that era! So the 18mm and 16mm measurements are an approximate equivalent to the original non-metric measurements.
Please note: vintage leather straps are almost always dried out after years of storage, leaving them fairly stiff. Although this strap does flex well, there is a risk of the leather cracking or breaking if it were to be worn regularly. These rare surviving straps are best kept for display rather than wear.
