Model S-404 Shelf Clock

This working Model S-404 synchronous motor shelf clock was made by the Hamilton-Sangamo Corporation of Lancaster, PA and Springfield, IL sometime between 1928 and 1931.

In keeping with the popular art deco style of its day, the body of this clock is made with a variety of contrasting solid woods and veneers. It is finished with lacquer. The \"second hand\" of this clock is a center disk, rotating flush with the surface of the face.

Like most clocks of the time, the Model S-404 was not self-starting. A lever found on the back has to be raised and released to start the motor. This lever needs to be used each time the clock is unplugged.

The original cloth covered wire to this clock had been replaced at some time in the past with a newer, plastic coated wire.

This clock stands approximately 7 7/8” high, 5 ½” wide at the base, and is 3” deep.
