Hand Carved Drake Goldeneye Decoy by Tom Brogan in 2006.

Tom Brogan has been hand-carving traditional working decoys as well as mantle birds and shorebirds for over 30 years. Tom makes most of his decoys out of white cedar, sawing them out on a band saw and then using hand tools - drawknives, spokeshaves, gouges, and knives - to finish them. He paints mostly in oils, can and tubes. Tom is self-taught but acknowledges the help he has found in many good carving books as well as the advice and encouragement he has received from great carvers over the years, many of whom have become friends. Tom has found that there are so many decoy makers that have been willing to share what has taken them years to learn in order to help him improve his decoys.Tom is a member of Ducks Unlimited, Ruffed Grouse Society, The Ward Museum, and the Delaware Valley Decoy Carvers and Collectors Club. He has donated many decoys for banquet sale over the years as well as carving at numerous events. He also has done carving demonstrations for many Orvis Field Days and Sporting Events.
