The Legend of the \"Wood Spirit\" Walking Stick

There are “Wood Spirit” legends in almost every culture as far back as history goes.

Wood Spirit carvings are considered good luck. Wise travellers assured their safety by carving wood spirit images on their walking sticks.

When you bring your ‘Wood Spirit Walking Stick’ home, give it a place of honor. Your wood spirit will bring his gentle wisdom, humor, and luck to all who live there.

The walking stick listed here was not massed produced by the wood elves nor was it carved by newfangled gadgets and gizmos or Dremel drones.

It was carved by a little old man, my dad, (and please don’t tell him I called him that—he still gardens and rides his Harley)

Dad sits at his kitchen table during the cold West Virginia Winter (see picture) and carves Wood Spirits in sticks with his tiny jackknife

The sticks are harvested from fallen trees and branches from the majestic and grand “West Virginia Hills”. A bit of West Virginia history here—our State song is “The West Virginia Hills”—Jennifer Garner (who is from my home of Charleston) sang it on Dave Letterman. You can YouTube it for its entirety

• No big beautiful Maple, Elm, Birch, Walnut, Iron tree gave up it’s life for human consumption

• They are not fired in a multi-thousand $$$ kiln, so they will “age” which only adds their history

• A leather strap has been added to put your hand through so your walking stick won’t take a hike alone
