Harold Hedd #1 - 7th Printing 1972 FN+ 6.5/ Harold Hedd#2 - 1st Printing 1973 VF- 7.5Rand Holmes / Incredible Underground Comix

The Collected Adventures of Harold Hedd is a very large (10.75 x 14.5\") comic book featuring 34 one-page Harold Hedd comic strips by Rand Holmes that originally appeared in The Georgia Straight, a Vancouver underground newspaper with a fairly radical heritage (it is still a popular free weekly). Harold Hedd is a pothead character who became the everyman hero of the emerging counterculture in Vancouver in the early \'70s. Hedd demonstrated much wit and ingenuity as he continually battled with the Vancouver government and police, especially its mayor, Tom Campbell, who was strongly anti-pot and anti-hippie.

In the course of the comics in this book, we are introduced to Harold\'s cousin Elmo, who Harold hasn\'t seen since grade school. Elmo shows up at Hedd\'s delapidated apartment dragging his motorcycle and a boisterous dog into the living room, and a lifetime friendship with Harold is born. Most of the rest of this book and all of the rest of Harold Hedd comics include cousin Elmo in panoramic adventures. In many ways, The Collected Adventures of Harold Hedd is a great primer for the future exploits of Harold Hedd and Elmo, but it also stands as a document of Rand Holmes\' fierce independence and anti-establishment nature during the dawn of the counterculture in Canada.

Anus-Clenching Adventure with Harold Hedd, aka Harold Hedd #2, came out in September of 1973, and is generally considered the best Canadian underground comic from the golden era. Without question, it\'s one of my all-time favorite undergrounds. It\'s one long Harold Hedd story, \"Wings Over Tijuana,\" a drug-smuggling adventure which is brilliantly written and illustrated. In a complex plot, Hedd and Elmo end up flying a 1942 WW2 bomber plane loaded with pot from Mexico to British Columbia; a dangerous mission with unexpected consequences.I have conservatively graded theThe Collected Adventures of Harold Heddat FN+ 6.5.Unlike most copies of this book, this copy was never folded! Due to its large size, it does have spine creases, but it is in exceptional condition all things considered with very little wear. I have conservatively graded the Harold Hedd #2 at VF- 7.5. The Collected Adventures of Harold Hedd is not bagged or boarded. Harold Hedd #2 is bagged and boarded. This set will ship in an new,18 x 12 x 1\"cardboard box with padding. No combined shipping for this odd-size item.
I am not a professional grader but attempt to grade books based on standard Overstreet guidelines. My grading is fairly conservative, particularly at the high end of the spectrum, but your grading may be more conservative. I can only say that I try to be consistent and you will likely find that my grades are within at least one full grade of your own.
SHIPPING: I don\'t ship comics by Media Mail anymore. It\'s just too risky, as USPS has become more vigilant about checking and restricting Media Mail. The last thing you want is to receive a notice that your shipment is available at the Post Office but there is postage due for retail ground shipping costs because the package did not qualify for Media Mail. I would refund your costs, of course, but it ends up being a big hassle for both you and me. FIRST CLASS MAIL: I can ship up to 4 or 5 standard comic books (or 1 or 2 typical comic magazines) by first-class package in a lightweight box with padding. This is a great, economic, quick and safe way to ship comics. I also use boxes instead of envelopes for more expensive single books, slabs and magazines. Above 4 or 5 comic books or 1 or 2 comic magazines, things are too heavy for first-class mail.RETAIL GROUND, FEDEX and PRIORITY MAIL: For 5 or more comic books or 2 or more magazines (sometimes even 1 magazine if it\'s really heavy), I offer options for USPS Parcel Select Ground, FedEx SmartPost, FedEx Ground, or Priority Mail. I use calculated shipping because it\'s the cheapest method for buyers. I offer the maximum of 4 options because different methods will be cheaper for different zones. With larger quantities, it\'s cheaper to go with flat-rate Priority Mail. I set a maximum of $11.99 on shipping (less than my discounted cost) for most listings. Larger sets of comic books will be shipped in sturdy boxes with padding and I will offer plenty of options. COMBINED SHIPPING: Under most circumstances, I will combine shipping for multiple wins. Combined shipping discounts are automatically applied for listings that are eligible for my promotional shipping rule. I will also combine shipping with large sets even though will not automatically calculate the combined shipping cost. Just contact me or wait until I get a chance to send you a new invoice with combined shipping discounts. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: As a standard practice, I ship to the United States only. International locations may contact me prior to close of offerding to arrange a special exception and shipping cost. If you do not contact me before close of offerding, no exception will be made. International shipping is a pain (including \'s Global Shipping program) and I try to avoid it at all costs.
