A Complete, Bound Volume Set of Civil War Harper’s Weekly

A rare war-dated complete run of America’s most famous illustrated newspaper.

[CIVIL WAR]. Newspapers. Harper’s Weekly bound collection. 261 complete issues in five volumes (Volume V-No. 210 through Volume IX No. 470), January 5, 1861-December 30, 1865. In original bindings, with the owner’s paper label, “Library of I. Linton” in the front of each.

Inventory #22843

Overall good condition, a few of the bindings are cracked and separating at covers. Minor tears and smudges, as is expected with such a large and complete collection.

Includes the map “Map of the Southern States Showing Rail Roads, County Towns, State Capitals, County Roads, The Southern Coast From Delaware to Texas Showing the Harbors, Inlets, Forts, and Positions of Blockading Ships.” This map is very hard to find in good condition, and despite the tears, which can be easily repaired, ours is very good.

This set records the entire Civil War in text and engravings. The 35+ Winslow Homer engravings from this period are present, as well as serializations of Charles Dickens’s works.
