Tractates
Various DatesWe bought these from a customer who ordered them one by one online just to study. Some are the old editions, some the new (dates by titles when available) We have cleaned them, and run them through 24 hours in our Ozone room to make sure there is no mold, mildew, or other such problems from the damp stains or storage. Unmarked Text blocks. Some have darker top edge, different printing/place of publication. They are rated good because covers, edges and sometimes their hinges have notable flaws. Very good study copy. All have at least light rubbing to extremities. Some are lightly age toned, dust toned. Some have sunfaded spines (pictured). A few have foxing to the edges, and areas of staining (pictured). We will list the titles below, and list any additional flaws particular to the title beside the title. Since they are all Tractates I will omit that from the titles below after number one, to reduce typing.
In no particular chronological order:Titles:
1. Tractate Baba Bathra (Maurice Simon; Israel W. Slotki; In two Volumes, this being volume 1. Former owner\'s name inside.
2. Baba Mezi\'a (Salis Daiches; H. Freedman) 1962 London. Light fraying at extremities.
3. Hullin (Eli Cashdan) London 1989. Light fraying to extremities. Damp stain top edge, bleeds to white end paper about 1/4 inch in size smaller than a pea. No smell, no damage to text.
4. Kiddushin (Rabbi DR H. Freedman) New Edition. London 1966. Light rubbing at extremities.
5. Rosh Hashanah, Bezah, Shekalim (Maurice Simon) London 1983. Back cover has an area of blue discoloring, around the outer and bottom ege, about 2 inches, and a touch of blue to the outer edge. I have seen this happen when two books stuck together, but cannot explain the blue to the edge. Text block unaffected. Light rubbing to extremities.
6. Berakoth (Maurice Simon) London 1960. Back hinge papers separating, hinge holding, papers torn along hinge. Light rubbing spine head.
7. Gittin (Maurice Simon) London 1963. Three areas of spotting to the edges, would fit in a pea. Top edge has area of discoloring, does not bleed to text or margin. Heavy wear to corners, and extremities with fraying there.
8. Yoma (Rabbi Dr. Leo Jung) New Edition. 1989. Hinge shaken, hinge paper starting. Fraying along bottom edge to board, Rubbing to extremities. Four small drop stains to edge, all four would fit in a pea. Top edge discolored, does not affect margin, text.
9. Peshim (Rabbi H. Freedman) London 1990. New Edition. Small band of rubbing/discoloring, along bottom front, foxing to edges.
10. Baba Kamma (Rabbi Dr. E. W. Kirzner, M. Ginsberg) London 1964. Several small drop stains (all 5 would fit in dime) and discoloring to top edge, does not bleed to margin/text. Fraying at corners, rubbing at spine head and tail.
11. Zebathim (H Freedman) London 1988. Name inside in Hebrew. Bumped corner, rubbing to extremities. This is one of the worst flaws, pictured....a scratch down center front, but it also appears to have some blue, either paint, or maybe a dust jacket that stuck to it. Afraid to try to get it off, as color might come with it.
12. Shabbath (Freedman) Light rubbing to extremities, occassional smudge, minor. Light foxing to edges.
13. Bekoroth \'Arakin (Rabbi L. Miller; Maurice Simon) London 1989. This one is the only ex-library copy in the lot, with evidence on spine of a former sticker (See Picture of lot) it also has a stamp inside that says Cornell University, withdraw.
14. Shebu\'oth, Makkoth (A. E. Silverstone) London 1987. Name or note top of ffep in Hebrew. Light rubbing, light sun fading.
15. Nazir, Sotah ( B. D. Klien) London 1985. Tear to end paper the size of a dime where former owner removed his initials. Stray smudge, minor.
16. Kethuboth (Dr. Samuel Daiches) London 1971. Light rubbing, no fraying, small smudge outer edge, minor.
And a duplicate for you to decide on:
17. Shabbath (Freedman) This is the worst one, pictured with number 11, it has what appears to be paper and paint stuck in places to front cover, making it acceptable instead of the rest of the lot that are good to very good. It is also the one pictured with the edges out, that has the worst edge stain, cluster of drop stains, in area that covers almost 1/4 of the edge. Lightly sunfaded top edge. It is a duplicate of Number 12, above, 12 being the nicer copy. We are throwing it in here, if you have someone who might also be a scholar, and want to give it away, or will remove it and adjust shipping weight, which ever you prefer.
