Please note that this thimble has a slight dent and a couple of repairs to the crown and some needle dings and signs of use evident on the rim.

Edwardian sterling silver Blackberry pattern thimble consisting of chased blackberry leaves and fruit on a textured ground and the berries arranged as a cluster on the crown. Made by Henry Griffith & Sons of 131 Warstone Lane, Birmingham, their address in 1904. Hallmarked on the plain flat rim: 14 (the size), HG&S LTD (the mark used from 1898 until 1912), the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter lower case \"c\" for 1902. Condition as in the first paragraph above. Height approx. 2.3 cm; internal base diameter 1.5 cm; weight 5.1 grams.

The name \"Blackberry\" was first used by and is credited to author and collector the late Diane Pelham Burn. In an 1897 advertisement (see below) this design was, however, named \"May\" by Henry Griffith & Sons though whether it referred to the month or a girl\'s name is not known.
