Beautiful reproductions of Gauguin\'s Tahitian paintings (on who\'s life the book is based), and lovely drawings by Steele. Steele (1873-1944) worked primarily for magazines (Illustrated American, Scribner\'s, Collier\'s, McClure\'s, and others). He was art editor for Everybody\'s Magazine during WWI. Steele, through his work on the Sherlock Holmes stories, was instrumental in the depiction of Holmes\' pipe and hat. These illustrations may have been one of Steele\'s last projects.
