A fine Hester Bateman sterling silver helmet shaped cream jug.
The bodies and feet of these forms of jugs were hand raised in two separate pieces.
The foot is plain. The rim is decorated with punched beading.
This elegant style is one of Hester Bateman\'s trademarks.
She was the greatest female, and possibly the greatest silversmith of her generation, and her work is highly collectable.
The Hallmarks are crisp and show the Assay office as London. The date mark is for 1788, and there are clear Maker\'s initials for Hester Bateman.
PLEASE NOTE that there are signs of historical repair, and thus, the sale price reflects this. Nevertheless, a beautiful item.Maximum height to top of handle - 5 1/2 inches / 14 cms.
