Description....For sale is a highly carved late 19c Chinese cinnabar lacquer lidded box of a deep red color executed in extra high relief with the top lid depicting various figures inleisurely conversation amoungst adenselyworked village setting. The subject matter that surrounds the figures contains fences, patios, waterways and muchvegetation,trees, rockery and various buildings as well as Chinesearchitecturalelements. All four sides are decorated with tightly carved leafy trellises with each side having a central lotus flower with both the inside and bottom areas finished in a black lacquer.
Condition...Excellent overall with a small chip to one of the underside\'s corners and a surface lacquer chip to the inside corner lipping of the lid and it is really tough to find any other chips due to the amount of carving but I have noticed just a couple of leaf tips nibbled and a short crack to one outside corner of the top which is very fine and of no realconsequence. The box is a bit dusty in thecrevices on the top section otherwise an amazing box with a great color and surface patina.
