How to connect the dots from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Hollywood, California,New Jersey, and the highest style of Paris ? Oil. Black Gold. Texas Tea. Money. A need as simple as a new dress for the Christmas, Winter or New Year\'s Eve Ball. A custom, designer made item ~ haute couture ~ high level fashion ~ handmade. A trip to California to have a new dress custom made ~ perhaps for the Tulsa Opera Fantasy Ball.Or an early Spring Prom. According to our local newspaper, the Tulsa World, the diamond (25th) anniversary of the PhilharmonicFantasy Ball in Tulsa was in 1989. So the first ball was in 1964.
Manciniwas connected to Phil Altbaum in Hollywood and Beverly Hills who had a collectioncalled Vago sewn for the long lean look. Similar to the styles of Jean Patou. This simple yet elegant gown, is not quite a-line or sheath as it has curves as shown, and achieves the tall Vagolook with straight full coverage from themock neck to the hem. A cut for cleavage is not necessary with the form fitting stretch knit of this gown. I first thought the collar was nehru but it is not. Also calls to the styles of Suzy Wong or Karl Lagerfeld. The generous long tall 12\" kick pleatsoffer movement and space and the hem is lined andhand-stitched. The gown is covered with massive trailing embellishments of sequins, paillettes, rhinestone crystalsand glass beads of periwinkle baby blue, ivory, peach pale pink, light peridot spring green, light amethyst purple, aurora borealis, clear, gold, copper, bronze, and pale jonquil yellow gold.
Researching the bead work on this gown has taken me to the sites of Maison LeSage and Luneville Paris and further history on this style. The beautiful artistic flourishing of sequins and rhinestones is best found with theEcole Lesage. Named after Francois Lesage, son of tailors who took over the embroidery shop of Michonet. Some of the finest Tambour / Luneville beading handwork has been found in Paris and the \"petites mains\" employed at these establishments. The fine embroiderie style may be influenced by artists of earlier times such as Jean Patou, Pierre Balmain, or others from further East ~ Russia, India ~massive sequins embroidery such as this(broderie as the French say) has been in existance since times BC. Sequins were apparently early forms of sewing money or coins into clothing !HOWEVER, recently I have been given insight to the fact thatsome of the finestbeadwork was done in Hong Kong ! Fabulous needlework, to be much respected !

Provenance: The name of Hinderliter is tagged in the gown. Frank Hinderliter, of the Hinderliter Tool Company is honored by the Sam Noble Museum of Oklahoma Oil Pioneers. He was a second generation oilman, son of Isaac N who came to Oklahoma before the oil boom began from Pennsylvania. Frank was the father of Don. Dozens of patents for oil related equipment are found in these names. Frank\'s wife was Jeanette R. Hinderliter. Thelma R. Hinderliter was Don\'s wife. All buried at Tulsa\'s Rose Hill Cemetery. Thelma was active as with The Tulsa Boys Home. Her daughter was in a sorority at the University of Tulsa. Tulsa has been lifted up for generations by the philanthropists of the oil industry. Those may be the initials on the Mancini tag in the gown or perhaps another daughter ? Or,the initials may be those of the artisan who worked on this item of haute couture. There is the number 3 as well.
Signed, dated and numbered. 1976, was, of course, the Bicentennial of The United States of America.
Research from the \'net and from a very helpful Tulsa librarian has shed light on this gown further. The floor length gown is designed by Mancini as the designer tag states. Madeline or Madeleine Mancini was the daughter of an Italian tailor who immigrated to the United States. She was born in New Jersey in 1912. M. Manciniwas working in the fashion world of the 20th century with contemporaries such as Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli, Frendi, Chloe, Prada, and more. Women designers were working for clean simple wearable clothing that yet accented the feminine mystique ~
Primarily known for simple stylish day dresses, Mancini seems to have stepped up and out with this custom designed item of high style ! This ball gown bears her clean comfortable wearable style. However, it bears rare and unusual elements. Perhaps by request, it is made with the warmth andbreathe-abilityof a light soft knit wool. ( Not having a test kit, I don\'t know if wool is 100% correct, but I have seen my husband\'s vintage French black wool bicycling shorts and the material is quite similar ! ) Quite an old fashioned yet a very practical decision as light weight wool is both warm and cool depending on the need, and can be oh so soft as well.

This is an exceptional finely made hand stitched embellished full length gown. Dating to the late 1960\'s tomid 1970\'s. High neck, back two hooks and eye closures, beautifully constructed and very stable. Long to mid length sleeves. Gorgeous naked look ivory cream colored knit fabric covered with heavy design elements of sequins and rhinestones from top of neck to bottom of hem. Mint condition! It looks never worn as it seems very clean and strong, free of staining, only some light foxing on the edge of bell sleeves.

The sequins and sparkling crystal jeweled patterns of flowers and leaves on the nude background are excellent. It is uncleaned as found with ever so slight age / storage yellowing oxidation. Would need to be cleaned and it would come out beautifully. Would make an exquisite wedding gown. An item of Tulsa Oklahoma oil industry history ~ Weighs nearly 4.5 lbs. Did I say rare?

Masses of natural trails of beads, sequins and rhinestones ~ over 4 pounds of lovely leaves and flowers ! A return to nature or flower power of the 60\'s !
Iridescent in pastel spring colors ~showing luminous luminescence that seems to change when seen from different shining,
nacreous;shimmering, dazzling,gleaming,rainbow-colored, glistening, glowing, vibrant, alive
An identical dress to this one sold a few years back on this site with the tag of Gene Shelly\'s Boutique Internationale.
To me, I see the bare leaves of fall on the branches of winter ~ the aurora borealis clear sequins every where remind me of shimmering sparkling snow and snowflakes falling ~ but the pale blue and pink whorls of flowers are a promise of Spring ~ there are a very few clusters of pale peridot green to hint of the coming of the next season too. The bead work creates a fantasy illusion. Perfect for a formal affair ~ excellent for keeping warm or cool. Classic style.
