Bored from solid rock using a diamond drill for exploration purposes. Rock from this famous mine is extremely old - approximately 2.3 billion years!

I of course cannot guarantee how much gold it contains. The Homestake would typically process tons of ore to get one ounce of gold, although miners would discover very rich ore from time to time.

With the Homestake long-since closed, these core samples are getting harder to find. This is your chance to add one to your collection.

This particular specimen has bands of partially-exposed gold-colored minerals, which likely do contain some actual gold. If you hold it at an angle, you can see that the bands run through a good part of the sample. I have some experience with samples from the Homestake and know what type of rock to look for.

PLEASE NOTE: The gold coloring doesn\'t show up well in the photos. The thickest gold-colored band is just beneath the iron-colored minerals on the top. You can just see the edge in the photos.
