This one is really hard for me to part with, but I absolutely must get serious about downsizing my collection. I picked this wonderful painting up in Hong Hu in Hubei Province when I lived in China in the 1980\'s and was working at the American Embassy and traveling to parts of China that had not seen Westerners before the Communist Revolution of 1949. In fact, I was told that I was the first \"洋鬼子\" to visit Hong Hu since 1949. This wonderful original watercolor painting was hanging in my hotel room in Hong Hu (some distance south of Wuhan) and I admired it from day one of my visit and kept asking the hotel staff if I could by any chance purchase the painting. They said it was part of the hotel decor and could not be sold, but finally on the last day of my visit my persistence paid off and they agreed to sell me the painting as a souvenir of my visit to Hong Hu. The painting perfectly captures the essence of Hong Hu in the springtime exactly as I remember it at the time of my visit in March. The city has changed a lot since then and the lake has apparently been endangered in recent years but is gradually recovering. I have no idea who the local Hubei artist was, but I am sure he or she went on to some fame and that his or her works have significant value on the art market in China now.The painting is in excellent condition, but you will notice a few scratches on the frame and plexiglass covering. The vintage frame measures about 39.5 x 30 inches.
