Wow! Take a look at this EXTRAORDINARY Hopi Kachina doll, depicting Tasavu, the Navajo Clown. As you might well imagine, this clown will bear the brunt of jokes about Navajos (which the Hopis dearly enjoy), and in fact the name for this clown comes from the Hopis’ first experience with Navajos, and means, loosely, ‘head pounding savage’. This delightful example, standing 8 and a half inches tall, is carved by the very well-known and highly respected. I believe the drum stick it is missing or snapped off.
