Dynamic duo in black and white, this pair of porcelain raccoons is a rare find among the legacies of renown midcentury figural artist Howard Pierce. Produced by Pierce’s California Potterystudio in the 1960s, the set features reclining and standing figures inproverbial postures that portray them as the playful scamps of the animal kingdom that make them so endearing.
Of course, real world raccoons may be a bit daunting if you happen to find them in your backyard (or your cat does!). But these two don’t bite and will surely make you smile every time you get a glimpse of them. Sweet midcentury originals, the pair strikes a nostalgic note as they display the whimsy and enchantment that likely inspired the artist who made them.
