A wonderful opportunity for collectors to own a Hudson River Schoolpainting by listed New York artist W.G. Van Zandt.

This lovely piece has delicate detail on the vegetation, shore lights across the Hudson,and great depth of field. It has the intimate feel ofthis transitional time of day. The signature LL is Wm G Van Zandt, 1923. Bonusartwork verso includes two pencil sketches of men’s heads, and a faint outlineof a bird’s head (see photos).

William Garrett VanZandt was born in 1857 and died in 1942, having lived his life in Albany, NewYork, on the Hudson River. His sale records range from a few hundred dollarsto over $11,000. Van Zandt is listed in The Artist’s Bluebook (2005),Davenport’s Gold Edition (2005), and Will Gerdts’ Art Across America.

The frame has slightseparation at the corners (see photo) but is solid, and the oxidized gold surfaceis in great shape. The painting has been cleaned and varnished. There is a smallamount of in-painting in the ragged part of the clouds (<1% of thepainting).
