Extremely Rare Find! This is an original rare 3 Chime Brass or Bronze Steam Locomotive Steam Whistle from the ICRR which is the Illinois Central Railroad. This is called the Steam Boat type whistle and is very similar to the Hancock whistles. The diameter of the bell is a full 6 inches. The overall height is just at 28 inches (not including the lever that is positioned downward) and it weighs 64 pounds, so it is a very heavy whistle. It reads 5595 on the side of the bowl. The threaded inlet is 2 inches. The bowl and valve are also brass or bronze, although painted black. The chime lengths from the opening of the arch to the top inside the chime are approximately as follows (again, these are approximate, they could be off a little):

10 3/8, 12 7/8, 15 5/8 inches

This whistle came from an estate sale with some history. The logo on the side of the bell is painted on and it reads: Illinois Central, Passenger, Paducah, KY Nov 1955. This came out of the Paducah, Kentucky shops. The tag on the lever reads the same, and states the cost to be a whopping $28.80 in November, 1955 to the original buyer. It is in great operational condition, valve springs back and forth as it should, and it has a very nice patina. No damage, dents or dings that I can see. Please look closely at the photos as this is exactly what you will be buying. Itwould be great for display as a railroad museum piece, or to use on a large full sized steam locomotive train, factory, sawmill boiler, ship, tugboat, riverboat paddle wheeler, steamship, steamboat, steam traction engine or steam tractor, etc.
