TheModel 1860 Light Cavalry Saberwas used by US Cavalry from the American Civil Waruntilthe end of the Indian Wars. It was 41in long with a 35in by 1in bladeand weighed 2lb 4oz alone or 3lb 10oz with iron scabbard.We believe this particular weapon was used by 2ndRegiment Cavalry Sergeant Benjamin F. Young. UNIONINDIANA VOLUNTEERS 2nd Regiment, Indiana Cavalry Overview: Organized at Indianapolis, Ind., September 20, 1861. Left State for Louisville, Ky., December 15, 1861; thence moved to Camp Wickllffe, Ky. Attached to Cavalry 4th Division, Army of the Ohio, to June, 1862. Cavalry Brigade, Army of the Ohio, to September, 1862. 1st Brigade, Cavalry Division, Army of the Ohio, to November, 1862. 1st Brigade, Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland, to January. 1863. 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland, to October, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Wilson\'s Cavalry Corps, Military Division of the Mississippi, to July, 1865. Regiment lost during service 4 Officers and 38 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 3 Officers and 211 Enlisted men by disease. Total 256.
