International Naval ExerciseRelease date09.04.2018The \"Noble Dina\" naval training exercise included the IAF\'s 193rd (\"Defenders of the West\") Squadron, as well as crews from the Israeli Navy, the Hellenic Navy and the United States Sixth Fleet. The forces drilled search-and-rescue & intelligence missions while strengthening the international cooperation

The \"Noble Dina\" international training exercise has come to an end on the coast of Israel, after beginning in Greece. The three-week long exercise, now in its seventh year, focused on anti-submarine warfare. During the exercise, the IAF and Israeli Navy cooperated with the Hellenic Navy and the United States Sixth Fleet.

The exercise is significant for the participating countries, strengthening their professional relationships and improving the participants\' professional level. \"The exercise is of great importance thanks to the ability to learn from others\' experience\", described Maj. A\', Deputy Squadron Commander at the 193rd (\"Defenders of the West\") \"Atalef\" (AS565 Panther) Squadron, which participated in the exercise. \"This year, we focused on Seahawk helicopters, which are due to be integrated into the IAF\".

Deep Sea Rescue
The 193rd Squadron – the IAF\'s naval reconnaissance squadron and leader of the exercise – works in cooperation with the Israeli Navy. Its goal is to provide assessments on the naval theatre. \"One of the benefits of being a pilot in the Hellenic Navy is that they serve a number of years in the navy before joining the flight course\", explained Maj. A\'. \"Their modes of operation are different – we learn something new every time\".

Various scenarios were performed in concordance with the international pilots. \"The Hellenic Armed Forces enables us to learn from a squadron with goals similar to ours. Because of our integration of the \'Seahawk\' helicopter, we used this exercise to focus on mutual learning and drilling using the Hellenic helicopter\", added Maj. A\'. \"Strengthening our cooperation is important, both for our mutual learning and for operations in the Mediterranean Basin\".

During the exercise, \"Yas\'ur\" (CH-53 Sea Stallion) squadrons and SAR (Search-and-rescue) Unit 669 drilled extraction scenarios. \"The exercise occurred mostly off the shores of Israel, which led to a high-quality training\", elaborated Capt. G\', exercise planner from the 114th (\"Leaders of the Night\") Squadron. \"We trained alongside Israeli Navy ships as well as a Hellenic Navy ship we weren\'t familiar with. It was an opportunity to train with tools we may encounter in the future. We\'ve learned many lessons\".
