Quite some time ago, I finished the sale of a large collection of drawings, coming from a heritage, found on a castle near Trieste. My Italian contact and I were fully convinced that the whole collection of drawings was sold to me. To our surprise, very recently, we were contacted once again by the family, announcing that they were bringing a last part of the drawings collection on the market (as it seems, they kept a small part and finaly decided to sell this part also). Imediatly, I took a flight to Treviso (near Venice) and managed to buy this very last part of the collection. In this folio, there are several figure studies, but as well some drawings with religious subjects.The present large size drawing, executed in charcoal on laid watermarked paper, depicts a religious scene. The artist shows the crucifixion of Christ. At the bottom of the cross stands his mother Mary and Saint John the Evangelist.
This drawing, possibly, was a study for a larger scale religious painting.Authorship : the drawing is from the Italian-Bolognese School.Period : ca. 1750-1770.Size : 39,5x27,1cm.Condition : Good. Some scattered dirt throughout. Top zone : some light spots (cleanable). Sides slightly irregular of shape. Unframed.Shipping : flat shippingrate 18$.
