Hussars were light cavalry used by Imperial Germany from Napoleonic times through WW1. The Hussars’ gaudy uniforms, topped with a distinctive high fur hat called a busby, helped these troopers regroup visually after a spirited charge or a quick retreat. Hussars had a reputation for being the dashing, unruly adventurers of the German army, and their traditional image was as reckless, hard-drinking, hard-swearing, womanizing, moustachioed swashbucklers. This Imperial German WW1 HUSSARS BUSBY LIGHT CAVALRY FUR HAT is in very good condition, with some drying and dark soiling to the brown leather loop at the top back crown, some drying to the entire black leather bottom edge rim, a bit of reddish soiling at the front of the interior leather liner, some stitch holes and some small tears at the interior crown lining where a tag appears to have once been, some dust and hair particles having gathered at the top of the crown and on the side \"bag\", missing all of the badges, cords, buttons, and accoutrements, missing the leather connecting lace from the interior liner, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the busby is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage. It features a beautiful black fur body, bears a striking red wool top crown and side \"bag\", and sports both of the original brown leather loops at the top of the crown. Most interestingly, it boasts a brown leather lappet interior liner, with all of the original \"fingers\" still fully intact.
