STUNNING ENGRAVING - 5 troy oz. - London: Edward Barton

This is a superb ANTIQUE VICTORIAN solid sterling silver CHRISTENING TANKARD or MUG which was made in London, England in 1838 by the illustrious Georgian silversmith, Edward Barton at his Hatton Garden workshops.It has a superb traditional tapering shape and has a lovelyloop handle. It has stunning engraved decoration to the sides. It measures2 1/2\" in diameter across the rim, 3 3/4\" from handle to lip and stands 4\" high. It is VERY substantial - it weighs148.6 grams -over 4 3/4troy oz. It is no longer engraved to the cartouche on the front.

It is hallmarked to theside with C&B, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),leopard head, C, Victoria duty mark showing that it was hallmarked in London in 1838. It is in very good condition with a littleless than the usual surface scratching,NO repairs, splits or dents with little distortion and few dings- really STUNNING - it is a remarkable piece of quality silver work.
