The holy grail of quilt patterns is the Album Applique. This important example has a stunning display of large size blocks 4 across and 4 down making this 16 in all. The traditional number you will find in album quilts.

c 1850/60s

This early album applique took our breath away with all the interesting blocks. Many flowers, wreaths, urns, berries and more. Fabrics haveprints andsolids in red, yellow, mustard, green, cheddar, blue and more.

What I found so interesting about this album quilt is the border in double rows of dogtooth, swags and corner post flowers. The size of the flowers I also believe is quite rare to find in a large size. Do open our photos to see many of the blocks and unusual patterns represented in this work of American textile art!

Measures a most generous 100 x 101 inches

Hand quilted 8-9 stitches per inch in diagonal lines.

Turned edge is hand sewn. Thin batting. Applique hand sewn (with some reverse work). Hand sewn embroidery work in places.

Has some age/other spotting tanning, areas of wear to applique, some missed stitching, holes and tears.

Originated from the Pennsylvania Maryland border. I do love when quilts are found from that area. You can see the influence from both states in this creation.
