Original and officially impressed Indian Mutiny Medal named to an Ensign who was attached to the 1st Batallion, 13th Light Infantry - the Somerset Light Infantry - who served under Colonel Lord Mark Kerr - one of the most famous officers of his day - who excelled during the Crimean War and Indian Mutiny.
The medal is correctly named as follows:
ENS. A, F, GERARD. ATTD. TO 1ST BN. 13TH L.I.
Service details during the mutiny as follows:
Lieut AF Gerard, 3rd Bengal Europeans (Ensign 20 Jan 1858; Lieut 5 Oct 1860). Served during the Mutinies, ’57, ’58. Present at the relief of Azimghur, under Lord Mark Kerr, on the 6th April ’58, and subsequent pursuit of Koer Sing. Present at the action of Amorah, 1st October ’58. Present at the attack on Jugdespore, 26th October ’58 (Medal).
