Here I have a Tatibin, ceremonial cloth from Lampung South Sumatra Indonesia, Semangka Bay area, a hand spun textile, with gold wrapped thread throughout, a piece known as ‘ships cloth’, the geometric design of vibrant colours, yellow, red and indigo are natural dyes. The gold thread is still in many parts of the weave condition is fair for its age (see photos) Measurement: 40cm x 84cm (15.5in x 33in) the cotton border is 5cm (2in) where it was framed in the past, carefully hand sewn around the edge, it looks quite fragile, it’s a lovely piece. Provenance: family inheritance, purchased over 25 years agoby my family who lived and worked inJakartaandBali, carefully wrapped, packed and stored away for years, in their London non-smoking home.
